Relief fund for Puerto Rico in Pike

MILFORD, PA — The Hotel Fauchère Emergency Relief Fund has been established by the management and employees of the Hotel Fauchère, after natural disasters last month decimated communities and resources in Mexico and Puerto Rico. The earthquake in Mexico and hurricane in Puerto Rico directly affected the families of several employees of the hotel.

Since September 22, 100% of the price of restaurant Bar Louis’ arroz con pollo dish, made in either a Mexican or Puerto Rican style, has been donated to the fund, and the entrée special will continue through October 13.

Donations can also be made directly, payable to Greater Pike Community Foundation, marked for “Hotel Fauchère Emergency Relief Fund” and sent to PO Box 992, Milford PA 18337.

The emergency fund is a pass-through fund, with 100% of the money raised donated to relief efforts in Puerto Rico and Mexico. The fund has already raised $3,000 so far.

Xavier Morales, Hotel Fauchère’s maître d’hôtel, a native of Puerto Rico, said “Our guests and the community have been generous and supportive, which means a lot to Pike County residents who have strong connections to Puerto Rico. It took a week for me to find out my family was safe, but many others still haven’t made contact with their families.”

Sean Strub, the hotel’s owner, is a member of the board of directors of the Greater Pike Community Foundation. He said, “I am proud that Greater Pike was able to respond quickly and generously, setting up a pass-through fund so donors can receive a tax deduction and we could in our small way, contribute to relief efforts.”

As a symbol of support, the hotel has been flying a Puerto Rican flag and a Mexican flag from its front porch.
