Eldred bullying trial argued

MONTICELLO, NY — A trial over bullying in the Eldred Central School District got underway on October 24.

It was expected to last one day and determine whether or not school officials took sufficient action to protect Anthony Motta Jr. from the students who are accused of bullying him for several years.

Motta and his parents claim the school was negligent in providing supervision, recognizing bullying and keeping Anthony safe while at high school.

Eldred officials contend they acted according to regulations and took appropriate steps to protect the student.

Before lunch, Motta’s attorney delivered powerful closing remarks that had many in the courtroom in tears.

Among those who testified were school principal Scott Krebs, guidance counselor Kim Gueren and Superintendent Robert Dufour for the district, and Motta’s parents and Motta himself as well as another former student who said she was also a victim of bullying.
