A full house was present on Sunday afternoon, August 13 at the Tusten Theater for the Delaware Valley Opera production of “The Mikado.” This Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera was filled with wonderful music, brightly colored costumes and, yes, an absurd plot to be enjoyed by all. However, the music and the voices were not absurd but filled with life as the plot unfolded. You still have time to see the performance this weekend, Saturday, August 19 at 8 p.m. or Sunday, August 20 at 2 p.m. Admission costs $20.

To continue to support the Delaware Valley Opera, now in its 31st year, attend the Opera Gala on Saturday, August 26, 7p.m. at the Western Hotel in Callicoon. There will be vaudeville comedy, cabaret music and dinner, all for $40, or $75 per couple.  You may purchase tickets online at delawarevalleyopera.com.

On August 20, the Lava Fire Department will hold its annual summer pancake breakfast. They have a reputation of serving a fine breakfast with bacon, sausage, eggs and pancakes, complete with home fries and delicious baked goods. This is a breakfast not to be missed. Doors open at 8 a.m.

It’s not too late to register for the town wide Community Yard Sale & Kidz Fun Day, sponsored by the Tusten Youth Commission. The sale will take place on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, September 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, September 3. There are two options. You may set up in your own yard or become part of a group with a spot on the Flats ballfield. A Buyers’ Map will be created so that no home yard sale will be missed. The suggested donation to reserve your spot on the ballfield is $10 and a $5 donation is requested to be listed on the map. To register for either of these options contact Kelly Agar via email at Tu stenYouth@yahoo.com. The deadline for registration is Monday, August 21. Can’t wait to make the rounds and shop.
