Jeffersonville citizen sees hope for Cochecton

Finally, something hopeful. In a season filled with international and national strife, with what amounts to a grievous political vendetta taking place in Washington, DC, plus the continued local threat of fracking, we at last have something to work for and, hopefully, to cheer about; Joan Glase and Dr. Paul Salzberg are running for Cochecton Town Council. What a refreshing and positive opportunity for all Cochecton voters to vote for the future of our town and against the cronyism and cynicism that has dominated in recent years. Both of these candidates are smart, dedicated, independent citizens with long-standing records of public service: upright, honest, intelligent people who care about our children, our health, our environment, who will work to place renewable energy and civilian well-being for all over greed and profit for the few.

I know Joan. She is both dynamic and compassionate. She is caring and she is tough. She is a terrific mom and a great civic organizer. She has a far-seeing vision of how to keep the very best of Cochecton as we know and love it intact, yet to work for the protections and the changes needed as we move into uncertain times ahead. I know she knows how to get things done.

With Joan and Dr. Salzberg on the town council, we will have a strong, enlightened pair pulling for the best that Cochecton can be—in its public attractions, its rural beauty and its business profile. Yes, I believe they can address all those issues as they help ease us and our beloved town into mid-21st century life. Please vote with me on Nov. 5.

Mary Lucier
