I am bursting with pride and appreciation for the support demonstrated by the community throughout the tri-state region for the recent Grey Towers’ 50th anniversary commemoration. Together, we showed our visitors, from around the country and as far away as France, the very best that America has to offer right here in our corner of the Pocono Mountains.

On behalf of the U.S. Forest Service and the staff at Grey Towers National Historic Site, we are grateful to our neighbors, our volunteers, our partners and the sponsors who helped organize and fulfill a wonderful schedule of events during the anniversary weekend and throughout this past year. Fifty years ago, the Pinchot family gave Grey Towers to America for the education and enjoyment of all citizens, and the support demonstrated by our community gives me great joy knowing that the next 50 years will be truly inspiring.

I want to thank the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the Pinchot Institute for Conservation for the programs they hosted. Nearly 2,000 people visited Grey Towers during those four-days, and over 1,000 visitors alone attended the free Family Day[…] many of whom had never been to Milford or Grey Towers before. I am grateful to the local restaurants and hotels (the Fork, Waterwheel, Settlers Inn, Balch’s, Hotel Fauchere, River Rock Inn, Best Western, Myer Motel, Hampton Inn and Harrington House) for accommodating our programs and guests.

I am grateful to the Pennsylvania State Police, Penn DOT, National Park Service, Pike County officials, Milford Borough, Milford Township and the Milford police and fire department for keeping our visitors safe.

I am grateful to the Delaware Valley School District for providing the high school band and to the students who volunteered to help throughout the weekend. The band’s music was a moving tribute to their similar performance 50 years ago when President Kennedy dedicated Grey Towers, and it brought many in the audience to tears.

Finally, I want to thank the Milford/Matamoras Rotary Club volunteers. The money they raised at the snack booth will provide support to neighbors in need in our community.
