A local judge for Supreme Court

Posted

As a practicing attorney, former president of the Sullivan County Bar Association and an elected official, I am proud to write today in support of my friend and colleague Stephan Schick as a candidate for the New York State Supreme Court for the 3rd Judicial District. Stephan Schick is an accomplished trial attorney, handling all manners of trials, including hundreds of felony trials at the superior court level. His 35-year career as an attorney has been devoted to the people of Sullivan County and almost exclusively within the courthouse where he will sit. I would surmise that no other lawyer in our county has spent more time in a superior courtroom than Steve.

For the past 10 years, Sullivan County has been without a resident Supreme Court judge. That means that our citizens are served by a rotating panel of judges from other counties. We finally have an opportunity to elect a judge from Sullivan County who will sit in Sullivan County. It is a rare privilege when the political stars align to allow a very small county like Sullivan to nominate a justice candidate. In this case, we have nominated a candidate that is eminently qualified for the position. We must not let this opportunity go to waste.

Stephan Schick will serve the people of Sullivan County and the Third Judicial Department with honor and distinction. I strongly urge you to support him on November 6, 2012.
