Your votes and voices are needed in Highland

I have been a resident in the Town of Highland, for 28 years. Never has an impending election been so important to the future of our towns, and our region.

The major question: do we want our area to become polluted and industrialized, with declining home values, devastated communities, damaged infrastructure, harmed wildlife, and increased public health problems? Or do we want to create a positive future, where we protect our rural heritage, pristine environment, and thriving sustainable economy that includes tourism, agriculture, and the arts?

Bravo to those individuals who are running for political office in their towns on Nov. 8 to help ensure we succeed in creating this positive future.

This is why, in the Town of Highland, I encourage everyone to vote for Carol Roig, candidate for Town Council. Carol has been a passionate and tireless advocate for protecting our town and building a sustainable future. She is co-founder of Highland Concerned Citizens, President of Highland Renaissance, chair of the current re-write Comp Plan task force, and a member of Highland's Committee on Energy and the Environment. And these are just her “volunteer” jobs!

Her professional responsibilities in the areas of grant writing, consulting, and organizing are equally impressive. She is currently working with Sullivan Alliance for Sustainable Development, helping with educational outreach to Sullivan County residents regarding sustainable and renewable energy opportunities and practices.

Carol is one of the smartest, most competent, thorough, organized, gracious and kindest people I know. Her ability to listen, and commitment to consensus-building, is nothing short of miraculous.

Please go out and vote for a positive future, and let’s hope for a landslide on November 8.

Sally Rowe
