I am a member of the Callicoon Creek Park Association (CCPA) and we have put on a concert series in the park for the last couple of years. The latest event featured MazMyth and AvanteGorz, two local and excellent “rock fusion” groups. Unfortunately the event was very sparsely attended because of many other events happening that evening. Also comments were made by some supporters of the park that they were disappointed because it wasn’t their genre of music. We are truly sorry for the disappointment, but we chose the groups to reach out to the younger crowd, which we haven’t done in the past. The park is for all.

This Saturday night, July 23 at 8 p.m., “Under the Moon in Callicoon” is presenting Universa Trio, featuring Steve Carlin of Livingston Manor, world renowned Latin jazz artist Chacho Ramirez (now residing in Narrowsburg) and Tony DeCicco from Liberty. The following Saturday, July 30, has Barbecue Bob and the Spareribs (blues) and also Janet Burgan, a wonderful local talent and the producer of this series. There is a lot of effort and money that goes into the series even with the grant support we received administered by the DVAA. The musicians relayed that they believe in community outreach and “home grown” events and love the playing venue—it is a wonderful park in which to have the music.

So if you can, stop by Callicoon Creek Park next couple Saturday nights at 8 p.m. to enjoy the music “under the moon,” and don’t forget to let us know who you’d like to see next season—especially if they’re local or nearby. We also are looking for people who can help out at this volunteer driven, donation run park. The park is for all!.
