America celebrates its birthday
The Independence Day weekend will feature parades, festivals and fireworks throughout the region. Some Saturday highlights include community festivals in Honesdale, Livingston Manor, Narrowsburg, Matamoras and Roscoe, with evening fireworks scheduled in Honesdale, Matamoras and at the Town of Thompson Park near Monticello. July 4 festivities include an auto show in Fosterdale, parades in Glen Spey, Liberty and Narrowsburg, and evening fireworks in Narrowsburg.

Casino stirs Orange County interests

MONTICELLO, NYSeveral county and village officials testified at the June 23 hearing for the Mohawk Mountain Hotel and Casino draft environmental impact study (DEIS)—Orange County officials.
Sullivan Countys more populous easterly neighbor was represented at last weeks Thompson Planning Board hearing by its planning commissioner David Church, county legislators Jeffrey Berkman and Roxanne Donnery, and Goshen mayor Scott Wohl.

1925 order might shape current Bethel politics

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NYA decision made October 3, 1925 might influence Town of Bethel politics in the coming weeks.
Bethel Councilman Robert Blais is leading the push to investigate whether a 1925 order, which discontinued the towns responsibility for a stretch of road near the Toronto Reservoir, would justify a decision to declare Town Road 62 an abandoned highway, thus eliminating Bethel residents recourse to the town as they fight to preserve the publics right to use the road.
