PORT JERVIS, NY — Since 2013 the Port Jervis Tourism Board has sponsored Christkindlmarkt, which is promoted as a family event in the tradition of markets held in Germany during the holiday season.

This year the market is scheduled to take place on November 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jersey Avenue in Port Jervis.

There will be new attractions in the form of Hilby, who calls himself the Skinny German Juggling Boy. From his website, “Hilby creates unforgettable moments for his audiences with such death-defying feats as The New Schrubber Schrubb Schrubb of Doom, in which he juggles an electric powered hedge trimmer, a bowling ball and a flaming beanie baby. Working in the tradition of the legendary silent vaudeville-inspired comedians such as Buster Keaton as well as the great mimes Marcel Marceau and Lecoq, Hilby presents a show without boundaries in which artistry and anarchy are blended into utter hilarity.”

The event has an active Facebook page, and after last year’s event, one vendor wrote, “Excellent show! I was there as a handmade soap crafter, company name Mind, Body & Bath. I was set up in the Big Tent. I had great sales and met some wonderful people.”

There will be Jingle Bell rides with horses and a wagon, lots of food and shopping opportunities with more than 100 vendors.

The event was started by Laura Meyer, who will be selling her sweets and treats inside the Erie Trackside. Along with chocolates, shoppers will find traditional German clear toy candy pops and edible toys.

JJ International Delicatessen will be returning this year serving up all kinds of wursts, hot pretzels, hot beverages and “European packaged goods.”

The day will be topped off with the arrival of the Santa Express.

The market offers free admission and free parking.
