May 31, 2011 – Kerry Castello, 45, was found Sunday, hanging by a bed sheet in his cell at Sullivan County Jail in Monticello. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the suicide.

Castello was being held as a fugitive from justice on a warrant from the state of Massachusetts charging him with six counts of armed robbery.

He was arrested May 19 by state police and U.S. Marshals at a relative’s residence in the town of Liberty.

Castello waived an extradition hearing and was waiting return to Massachusetts.

Following the discovery, he was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia. The investigation continues by the sheriff’s detectives and the New York State Commission of Corrections.
