Klendin G. Kirby of Yulan, NY, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY on Sunday, June 3, 2012. He was 83 years old.

The son of the late Kaska and Dorothy Soup Kirby, he was born in Beaver Brook, NY on May 2, 1929. At a young age he was raised by his grandparents, Caroline and Charles Kirby.

Klendin was a WWII Army veteran. He retired from the Sullivan County Dept. of Public Works as a Heavy Equipment Operator and a Blaster. After retirement he worked for Kessler Surveying and mowed lawn in the area. Kirby was a Beaver Brook Rod and Gun director, member of the Ridge Runners Hunting Club, Penn York Snow Club, former Town of Highland Councilman, a member of the Highland Democratic Club—he was their chief pancake maker—an inspector of voting machine, Grand Marshall of the Yulan St. Patrick’s Day Parade and also for the Town of Highland. He was also a square dance caller.

Kirby was a very generous and giving person. He only saw the good in people; that’s why he had so many friends. He lived for his hunting clubs and interaction with people. He was also known for loving his spritzers.

Survivors include his daughter Georgia Borrero and her husband Robert of Port Jervis, his aunt Lucille of Pennsylvania, brothers Kermit and Kelby, sisters Gilda, Gia and Gail, all of Binghamton, NY, a grandson Robert Borrero Jr., a granddaughter Taylor of Pennsylvania, his sister-in-law Ida Berger of Narrowsburg, her sons John and Robert Berger, a special little girl, Sydney, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Curt Sommers, Jack Wagner, Brenda Loeven and Bob VanCura for all their help.

Klendin is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Joan, his sisters: Kleona, Kleota and Glenda, and an aunt, Klelah.
