Marilyn M. Hamilton

On Monday, April 9, 2012, Marilyn M. Hamilton died at her home after a brief illness.

She was born in Indianapolis in 1921. Her teacher and mentor, the late writer Marguertie Young, encouraged Marilyn to apply to the University of Chicago where she earned a full scholarship, maoring in Philosophy. After moving to New York City, she studied with Fritz Perls before beginning her long practice as a psychoanalyst in Greenwich Village. In the 1970s she created the Women’s Guild for Psychoanalysis.

Marilyn and her late husband, the actor Richard Hamilton, lived in New York City for some 50 years, coming summers and weekends to their beloved home in Jeffersonville, NY.

She loved barns, architecture, English literature, theater and poetry. She also loved to tap dance and did so well into her 80s. A true New Yorker, Marilyn enjoyed walking, often from one end of Manhattan to the other.

She will be greatly missed by her son Morgan, her daughter Hanni, and by her brother David as well as family and friends near and far.
