Howard Schuchman of Damascus, PA, retired owner of the Cochecton General Store in Cochecton, NY, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at Geisinger Family Hospice in Scranton, PA. He was 77.

The son of Charles and Rhoda Reinish, he was born March 5, 1935 in Bronx, NY. He was married to Maria Indrieri Schuchman.

Howard was a member and former treasurer of the Cochecton Mens Club, member and former treasurer of Lake Huntington/Cochecton Fire Company and captain of the fire police, Supervisor for a Day program at Damascus School, chairman of the zoning board in Damascus, assistant scout master of Troop 1776 Merrick, Long Island and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; children Joseph Porcaro and wife Nancy, David Schuchman and wife Mary, Dennis Schuchman and wife Mary, Dennis Porcaro and wife Donna, Steven Schuchman and Gabrielle Dunnigan and husband Jed; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Paul Schuchman and wife Judy and Barry Schuchman; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Paul Schuchman on Wednesday, March 21, Thursday, March 22, Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 beginning at 7 p.m.

Services were on Wednesday, March 21 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon, NY. Rabbi Baruch Melman officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Damascus.

Donations may be made to the Lake Huntington/Cochecton Fire Company.
