Russell U. Maerz of Richmond Hill, NY passed away on February 8, 2012. He was 87.

Russell was the longtime scout master of Boy Scouts of America Troops 4 and 28 in Richmond Hill. He also served as scout master during 35 summers at Ten Mile River Scout Camp in Narrowsburg, NY from 1964 to 1999. Boy Scout Troop 28 Fife and Drum Band marched in the Narrowsburg July 4th Parade under Russell’s direction for 20 consecutive years, from 1975 to 1995.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie, (nee Arnold) Maerz; devoted father of Gail Maerz and Gary Maerz and wife Barbara; and loving grandfather of Gary and Jessica.

A funeral service was held at the Leo F. Kearns Funeral Home, Richmond Hill, on Sunday, February 12. Interment took place at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Richmond Hill.
