MARGARET ISABELLE HAZEN

Margaret Isabelle Hazen, a 26-year resident of White Lake, NY, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at home. She was 71.

The daughter of the late Wilbur M. and Florence M. App Hazen, she was born on October 23, 1940 in Waltham, MA.

Margaret was a graduate of Somerville High School and New York Institute of Finance. She worked for Dean Witter Reynolds for 25 years as a vice president and Equity Trader in their Institutional Trading Dept; a co-founder of Women Traders of New York; co-founder of Bethel Business Assn. White Lake; co-owner of Gaetano’s Cafe in Mongaup Valley, NY with her partner of 20 years, John G. Genovese. She was an active member of the Board of Directors of United Way of Sullivan County; a past member of the Board of Sullivan County Partnership; an active member of Rotary International and the Sullivan County Republican Fund Raising Committee. Margaret also had many hobbies: arts, crafts and music, and was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Mongaup Valley.

Survivors include sisters Florence M. Hazen Picard and husband Raymond of Massachusetts and Elizabeth A. Hazen Dillon and husband Richard of West Hurley, NY; brother Robert Hazen and wife Maria of New Jersey; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is predeceased by her brother William M. Hazen of California; sister Barbara A. Hazen Bowes of Massachusetts; and niece and godchild Diana M. (Bowes) Spano of Massachusetts.

A funeral mass was held on Saturday, February 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Gale Rd. Mongaup Valley. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.
