On Friday March 25, 2016 State Police at Liberty arrested Joseph E. Somers, age 27 of Liberty after he was found to possess a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer pistol inside his home.

The arrest and discovery of the weapon occurred when Troopers were assisting Sullivan County Probation officers during a routine home visit at Somers' Liberty residence. Somers is under the supervision of Sullivan County Probation for unrelated offenses.

Somers was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a felony. He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail.
