Liberty-based state trooper death

On June 29, 2014, State Police were called to the area of Nassau Lake in Rensselaer County for an unresponsive female. When Troopers arrived they found 27-year-old, Kerstin Williams, deceased.

The investigation at the scene showed no signs of foul play, and an autopsy on June 30 revealed Williams' cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation revealed the weapon used in the incident was Willams' Division-issued firearm.

Williams was an 18-month veteran of the New York State Police and was assigned to Troop F, SP Liberty.

Troop F Commander, Major Patrick Regan said, "Trooper Williams always had a positive attitude and was eager to do a good job while on the road. She was well-liked by both her peers and supervisors and showed the skill set and potential to have an outstanding career with the New York State Police."

The thoughts and prayers of the New York State Police are with Trooper Williams' family during this difficult time.
