Monticello Police arrested Amy Jo Smith (36) of Glen Spey on Thursday 1/9/14. Smith was charged with felony criminal possession of a forged instrument in the 2nd degree. On Thursday Smith had reported to the Sullivan county Probation Dept. because her out of state probation had been transferred to Sullivan County.

During her probation visit she presented probation officers with medical documents from Bon Secours hospital in Port Jervis stating that she was seeking cancer treatments. Smith attempted to used the medical documents as an excuse of not meeting the conditions of her current probation.

Probation officers contacted Bon Secours hospital to verify Smith’s documents and learned that smith had never been treated there. Upon further investigation it was revealed that smith had altered the medical documents and that in fact they belonged to another member of her family.

Probation officers then contacted Monticello Police and Smith was then arrested at the probation dept. Smith was arraigned before acting Village of Monticello justice Martin Miller and remanded to the Sullivan county jail on $2500.00 bail pending further court action.
