Monticello police arrested Matthew Vola (38) of Brooklyn on Wednesday 8/28/13. Vola was charged with misdemeanors for criminal contempt in the 2nd degree, assault in the 3rd degree, resisting arrest and violation of harassment in the 2nd degree.

At 10:30 AM Wednesday Monticello police officer Harry Mota was conducting an investigation into a larceny incident at the family dollar store on east Broadway in the village of Monticello when he observed Vola at the store.

Mota was aware that there was an arrest warrant for Vola for criminal contempt in the 2nd degree. Monticello police on 8/10/13 for aggravated harassment had previously arrested Vola and he had been served an order of protection at his arraignment barring contact with the complainant.

Vola violated the order of protection 8/26/13 by re-contacting the protected party on the order of protection and an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest. When Vola saw Mota he retreated into the store and attempted to hide behind some boxes in the back of the store.

When Mota located Vola he violently struggled with the officer, knocking over a cart and items off shelves. Vola broke free from the officer and ran out of the store. Mota pursued Vola on foot and tackled Vola in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut.

Vola was then arrested. Vola was arraigned before acting village of Monticello justice Martin Miller and remanded to the Sullivan county jail on $2500.00 bail pending further court action. Po Mota sustained a minor laceration to his right thumb during the struggle with Vola.
