New York State Troopers conducted an early morning DWI checkpoint on Roosa Gap Road in the Town of Mamakating, NY on June 23, 2013 that resulted in the arrest of two individuals for drug possession.

At 1:47 a.m., Troopers detected the odor of marihuana coming from a vehicle coming through the checkpoint. The vehicle was searched, and the back seat passenger, Brian R. Smith of Pine Bush, NY, was found to be in possession of one gram of marihuana as well as various marihuana smoking pipes.

Eight minutes later, a second vehicle coming through the checkpoint was pulled aside because of the smell of marihuana. The driver of the second vehicle, Grace E. Arezzo of Circleville, NY, was also found to be in possession of one gram of marihuana and a marihuana smoking pipe.

Both suspects were charged with unlawful possession of marihuana, a violation, and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Mamakating Court.
