Ferndale burglar: 'you got us'

Posted

On Wednesday June 12, 2013 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a passing motorist contacted the Sullivan County Sheriff's Patrol to report a suspicious male standing in front of a garage adjacent to a residence located at 521 Old Route 17 in Ferndale.

Sergeant Paul Slavik and Deputy Sean Grady responded to the scene and found that a padlock and hasp that secured the side door had been broken. The two deputies entered the garage and confronted Michael Galicia, 18, of Ferndale. Galicia immediately raised his hands above his head and stated, "you got us!"

A search yielded a second suspect, Jeremy Rodriguez, 20, of the Bronx, who was hiding under a table in the rear of the garage.

The suspects were in possession of several small antiques that they had stolen. Deputies later learned that Rodriguez has a pending case in Bronx Criminal Court involving an attempted murder and assault charge. Both men were charged in this case with Burglary, Grand Larceny and Criminal Mischief.

They were arraigned before Town of Bethel Judge Kevin Rhyne and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail each. They are scheduled to appear in Town of Liberty court next week.

"This was a classic case of 'if you see something, say something,'" said Sheriff Mike Schiff. "It is not often that we catch suspects red handed inside the building."
