Aggravated assault and terroristic threats in Honesdale

On 05-31-2013 at 7:15 a.m., Honesdale Borough Police responded to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for a reported assault. An investigation revealed that 26 year old Thomas COFFIN was at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department and he was being uncooperative.

While staff was attempting to calm him, he stabbed a doctor in the left shoulder area with a ball point pen. Security intervened and was assaulted by COFFIN. COFFIN also threatened the security and medical staff. COFFIN was restrained and later transported to another facility. The doctor required medical attention.

A warrant was obtained charging COFFIN with 3 counts of Aggravated Assault, all Felonies and 2 Counts of Terroristic Threats, both misdemeanors. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, June 5th, and arraigned before MDJ Ron Edwards. He was remanded to the Wayne County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
