At approximately 6:00am on May 10th, 2013 the Village of Liberty Police responded to a report of two suspicious men near a gas station on North Main Street in the Village of Liberty. A concerned citizen told police he saw two men wearing ski masks and bandanas asking people for money.

Upon officers arrival they immediately recognized one of the suspects as Laron Dinkins, 20 of Liberty who had an active warrant out of the Town of Liberty Court for criminal trespass. Upon being approached by officers both suspects fled on foot and Dinkins was apprehended after tossing an imitation revolver BB gun during the pursuit.

While Dinkins was at the police station being processed the owner of an auction house in the Village of Liberty opened up his store at around 9 am and found that overnight his store had been burglarized and that a .22 caliber rifle and a “Daisy” revolver style BB gun had been stolen.

An investigation revealed that Dinkins had burglarized the auction house earlier that night. Dinkins was charged with Burglary in the 3rd degree, grand larceny in the 4th degree, and tampering with physical evidence, felonies and petit larceny, obstructing governmental administration in the 2nd degree and resisting arrest, misdemeanors. Dinkins was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
