Monticello man arrested for welfare fraud

Village of Monticello Police in conjunction with the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Investigation Unit arrested Brendan W. Bellamy (41) of Monticello on Thursday 5/9/13. Bellamy was charged with felonies for grand larceny in the 4th degree, offering a false instrument for filing in the 1st degree and welfare fraud in the 4th degree.

An investigation showed that Bellamy had fraudulently obtained a total of $2361 in public assistance benefits and Medicaid benefits from the Sullivan County Department of Family Services.

Bellamy also specifically received an emergency $600 H.E.A.P. benefit while having $16,261 deposited in his bank account on 1/25/13. Bellamy was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Justice Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $5,000 bail pending further court action.
