District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Aniebal Santiago, 19, and Joseph Strong, 18, both of Monticello were sentenced in Sullivan County Court to state prison sentences for their convictions for burglary in the second degree.

Santiago received a 10 year state prison sentence and Strong a 8 year state prison sentence for a series of burglaries they committed in May and June of 2012. They were both ordered to serve 5 years of post release supervision in addition to the prison sentences.

Both men pleaded guilty in September to multiple counts of burglary in the second degree for breaking into multiple homes in the Towns of Thompson, Fallsburg, Bethel and Forestburgh and stealing electronics, money, alcohol, jewelry, and other valuables.

The case was investigated by the New York State Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Monticello Police and the Fallsburg Police.

Farrell said that “Residential burglaries will continue to be a priority for my office. While these young men had no prior criminal convictions they invaded the sanctity of multiple homes and as a result had to be held accountable with lengthy state prison sentences. The message is clear, no matter your age, if you break into someone else’s home and steal their belongings in Sullivan County, we will find you and bring you to justice and you will see the inside of a New York State prison.”
