The New York State Police in Wurtsboro, N.Y., announce the arrest of Nicholas Lafond, 19, of Miller Place, N.Y., for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (Felony), two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (Violation), Possession of Controlled Substances in Non-Original Container (Violation), and Driving While Impaired by Drugs (Misdemeanor).

On April 23, 2012, New York Troopers observed Lafond operating a Honda Civic westbound on St. Rt. 17, near exit 110 in the Town of Thompson, in excess of 90 miles per hour. After the vehicle was stopped, Lafond was found to be operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs. Further investigation revealed Lafond to be in possession of more than one ounce of cocaine, quantities of Xanax and Suboxone, marihuana and over $800 cash. Lafond was arrested on the above charges without incident.

Lafond was arraigned in front of Town of Mamakating Town Justice Marcelle Matthews and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail to reappear in the Town of Thompson Court at a later date.
