Damascus, PA man charged after evading road check

Troopers out of NY State Polic in Narrowsburg were conducting a safety roadcheck on State Rte 17B in the town of Delaware when a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup backed away and attempted to evade the roadcheck on May 22.

A Trooper pursued the truck, which failed to comply, and was able to pass the vehicle in Callicoon, NY. The police car was able to block the roadway and prevented the vehicle from fleeing into the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The driver, Jospeh C. Powell, age 22 of Damascus, PA was found to be in possession of marijuana and a controlled substance.

He was charged with Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and numerous vehicle & traffic violations.

He was arraigned before town Justice Kramer and will reappear in the town of Delaware court on a later date.
