Posted

On Saturday April 16, 2011, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office investigated a residential burglary on Sackett Lake Road in the Town of Thompson.

Sheriff’s detectives quickly developed leads and executed a search warrant the next day, April 17, 2011, at 10 Britman Road in the Town of Bethel.

At that residence, detectives recovered proceeds from the Sackett Lake burglary as well as jewelry and property believed to have been taken in other burglaries in the Smallwood/Bethel area.

On April 27th, 2011, Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Richard M. Grillo, age 50, of White Lake on a charge of Burglary in the 2nd degree. Grillo quickly fled the area leading detectives to conduct a three state manhunt.

The Sheriff’s Office contacted the NY & NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, which is a multi agency unit headed by the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and requested assistance in apprehending Grillo.

On May 11, 2011, acting on a tip, the NY & NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Grillo on the street in Huntington, Long Island.

He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Sheriff’s detectives who transported him back to Sullivan County for arraignment.

As of the time of this press release, Grillo is being held at the Sheriff’s Patrol office, awaiting arraignment. Sheriff Mike Schiff praised the persistence of his detectives and thanked the District Attorney’s Office, and Fugitive Task Force for helping to put this case together. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
