Drumroll please… Let’s give a round of applause to Ursula Arnello as she steps down from her role as administrator of the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corp with over 20 years of service. For most of us, it is difficult to volunteer for the same organization that employees you, but Ursula found a way. She began her service as a volunteer, and when it was clear a paid employee was necessary to continue to provide the excellent emergency services we are accustomed to, Ursula stepped up. She was paid as an administrator and added shifts as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Her diminished role will leave a void difficult to fill. Ursula’s attitude was dedicated and professional, providing Tusten and the surrounding areas thousands of hours of service. We will miss Ursula and wish her well in the future.

Meals on Wheels is another volunteer service offered in our community, sponsored by the Sullivan County Office for the Aging. There are three basic criteria that must be met to qualify for this service:

1. Must be 60 years or older

2. Must be a full-time resident of Sullivan County

3. Must be considered homebound, unable to cook or shop, with no family or friend support

If you meet the above criteria, you qualify for meal delivery to your home up to five days a week, with two additional frozen meals provided. This service may be provided either long-term or short-term as needed.

There are 12 sites throughout Sullivan County providing the Meals on Wheels service, and Narrowsburg is one of them. If you are a senior citizen, not homebound, lunches are offered in town hall on Mondays and Thursdays for the nominal fee of $3 if you are registered with the Office of Aging, or $4.50 if not. You can register on the phone by calling 845/807-0241. It’s comforting to know such services exist when needed.
