LIBERTY, NY— There will be a Master Food Preserver Certification program on May 19, 20 and 21, offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC). The three-day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day in the new Entrepreneurial and Teaching (EaT) Kitchen of its Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center on 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd.
Judy Price and Katherine Humphrey, Cornell Cooperative Extension Home Food Preservation experts, will guide participants through hands-on demonstrations of all food preservation methods recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The training will include experience in hot-water bath and pressure canning, gelled products and pickling, freezing and drying, and more. Pre- and post-testing as well as evening study are necessary. Program graduates will earn a certificate of participation, the first step in becoming a certified CCESC Master Food Preserver volunteer.
Cost is $375 per person and includes instruction, a 265-page handbook, and lunch each day. Space is limited and pre-registration with non-refundable payment is required by May 11. Email srb46@cornell.edu, call 845/292-6180 or visit www.sullivancce.org.
