LIBERTY, NY— The public is invited to attend the 100th annual meeting of Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC) on Thursday, December 11. The free event will be held at 7 p.m. in the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center on 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd. Light refreshments will be available.

Scott J. Peters, professor at Cornell University and Syracuse University, and faculty co-director at Imagining America (IA): Artists and Scholars in Public Life, will be the keynote speaker for the evening. To mark the centennial of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, the federal legislation that institutionalized the land-grant system’s extension work by establishing the national Cooperative Extension System, IA has launched a new initiative called “Extension Reconsidered.” Peters will discuss that initiative, which aims to reconsider views of what extension is and what it’s for, and to envision what it could and should be in the 21st century. Peters is also writing a book on the subject.

The CCESC board and staff will also honor a few outstanding volunteers and youth for their accomplishments. Voting for CCESC board of directors and program advisory committee vacancies and expired terms will also be on the agenda. A list of the candidates can be found at www.sullivancce.org.
