Becker named Wayne County Historian

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County commissioners at their meeting on Thursday, July 10 appointed Peter W. Becker as the Wayne County Historian, a position made vacant with the passing of Richard Eldred earlier this year. Becker was named to the post on the recommendation of the Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS) by a resolution of the WCHS Board of Directors.

Becker was born in Honesdale in July 1956, son of the late Howard D. Becker and Elsa Garratt Becker, both of whom were artists. His mother, who illustrated for Highlights for Children Magazine, traced her family tree in Wayne County to 1805.

A graduate of the University of Scranton with a B.A. in communications, Becker has since made journalism his professional career. He has been managing editor at The News Eagle in Hawley since 2010, and prior to that he was managing editor at The Wayne Independent.
