What a great weekend I had! Saturday was my 40th reunion from grammar school, St. Gregory’s the Great in Bellerose NY. The school has a 10-day festival each year, so we decided to meet at the beer truck. Twenty-two of us showed up out of about 100. (There were three classes with 30 something kids in each.) Some came FROM as far away as Florida, Delaware and Virginia, and we all had a great time. Among the stories being told of how the nuns used to hit us, was one from a guy telling us how the principal, who was a mean nun, took him into her office and pulled him by his tie, pushed him up against the wall and whacked him across the face because he did not return a book to the library, and when she was done, she told him I will not tell your parents; this is between you and me. Believe you me, I got my share of whacks with that wooden ruler. The nuns would turn the ruler so the metal part hit your knuckles, and if you pulled your hand back you got a extra whack. Ah, the good old days.

On our drive home on Sunday we went to the Conservative luncheon to honor Ira Cohen, who could not make it because he was not feeling well. Ira, the love was flowing for you, from all that were in attendance, we hope you are feeling better. I got to sit next to and rub elbows with Sullivan County D.A. Jim Farrell. What a nice guy, and he is doing a great job.

The Cochecton Youth Commission (CYC) would like to thank everyone who helped out at the car wash and bake sale—the bakers, car washers and the people who came out to support the kids, and a big thank you to Gasko & Meyer for letting us use their parking lot.

On Sunday, June 29 sign up for “Transformers” at the Callicoon Movie Theatre between 1:30 and 2 p.m. The movie starts at 2.

On Thursday, July 10 CYC hosts a trip to Camel Beach. Sign-ups will be held July 1 from 6 to 7 p. at the old town hall. Contact Karen at 845/807 3566 with any questions. Feel free to bring an out-of-town friend; they will just need to pay the group rate. For more information on Camel Beach, see www.camelbeach.com.

On Saturday, July 12, at the Firemen’s Field Day, the CYC will have a bounce house for all children to enjoy. There will be snow cones and water for sale to benefit CYC. If you’re interested in helping out, contact Joan at 845/932-8123.

On Saturday, July 12, the Lake Huntington Fire Company Field Day will be held. Vendors wanted. Call Jeff Nober at 845/932-8586. More information to follow.

Have a great week and e-mail me at leeniebeans@citlink.net or call 845/252-3568 if you have any news.
