Well, according to the calendar it is springtime. The snow needs to go away, however, and the sun needs to shine. With the arrival of nicer weather, many local meetings will be starting up again. On the third Monday of the month, April 21, the Cochecton Democratic Club will have its monthly meeting, and here’s another reminder—dues will be collected, $5 per member. The Republican Club meets the first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The Women’s Community Club of Cochecton will hold its first meeting of 2014 on Tuesday, April 8 as long as the weather is good. All meetings are at the old town hall.

The Preservation Society meets the first Tuesday of the month at the train station on Route 97.

On Saturday, April 5, the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Ladies Aid will have a penny social at the church on County Route 116 in Lake Huntington; doors open at 11:30 a.m. and calling starts at 12:30 p.m. Hot dogs and sauerkraut, relish and soda or water will be offered for sale, and there will be free refreshments after the calling. Donation: $1.

On Friday, April 4, the Cochecton Youth Committee is going out for a “Night of Disco Bowling” at Gravity Lanes in Honesdale, PA. Disco bowling includes laser lights, black lights, and music. This event is free to all Cochecton youth. Adults and out-of-town children are welcome and will pay the group rate to the event coordinator. Sign-ups for the event will be on Tuesday, April 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the old town hall. If you have any questions, please contact the event coordinator, Michelle Birney, at 570/419-8801. The Cochecton Youth Group on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. will be going to the Callicoon Theater to see “Captain America: Winter Soldier” (PG-13). Sign-up is 1:30 p.m. and is free to Cochecton youth.
