MONTICELLO, NY — The Awards Committee for the 2014 Nonprofit Leadership Summit announced that it has narrowed the field of applicants seeking the second annual Nonprofit Innovation Award to three finalists.

The Youth Economic Group (YEG) of the Rural and Migrant Ministry was chosen for its youth-run silkscreen business known as “Basement Bags,” which is now run from a storefront building on Main Street in Liberty called “Spark.” The Weather Project, a program of the North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL Theatre), was selected for its cross-disciplinary collaborative arts and science project that focuses on the important issue of climate change. The committee chose Hudson Valley Cancer Resource Center for its innovative free website hudsonvalleycancer.org, the only online directory that allows cancer patients in the 10-county Hudson Valley region to easily search national, state, regional and local resources for medical information and support services to help address concerns that arise during cancer treatment.

With the $5,000 award at stake, the three finalists will each take a turn presenting their initiative to a panel of judges and nonprofit leaders gathered at the Summit at Bethel Woods on March 27, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets cost $45 and include breakfast, lunch and a full day of professional development. Registrations can be made online until March 21 at leadershipsullivan.org/upcoming-events.html.
