SHOHOLA, PA — Shohola Boy Scout Troop #76 Scoutmaster Herb Rinkel was recently recognized at a Hudson Valley Council Roundtable meeting where he was presented with the “Unit Leader of Merit” award for dedicated service, responsible leadership, and for providing an opportunity for young people to grow.

The award was created to recognize quality leaders. Rinkel, who has been involved in scouting in a leadership capacity for a little over five years, started his association with scouting as a Cub Scouts Webelos Assistant Den leader. He found that he thoroughly enjoyed the scouting program, embracing the core values.

Not only has Rinkel been recognized with the “Unit Leader of Merit” award, the entire Troop #76 has been recognized with the “Boy Scouts of America Journey to Excellence” award. In order to achieve the gold level score, which is the highest level of achievement, the troop must collectively earn at least 1,600 points in 11 of the 13 categories. The Shohola Boy Scout Troop 76, this year, has earned a total of 2,075. Rinkel states that he wants to thank all of the scouts for their hard work and dedication to Troop 76. He also wishes to express appreciation to his wife, Meghan, for all of her support, along with all of the adult leaders and parents, as well.
