Lacawac Sanctuary grows, seeks volunteers

LAKE ARIEL, PA — Lacawac Sanctuary, which formed several new educational and scientific research alliances in 2013—with Miami University of Ohio, Drexel University and The Academy of Natural Sciences—is pushing forward with its plan to become the headquarters for a new environmental research and education consortium.

Its purpose is to conduct original scientific research, as well as to create new educational and career pathways related to the environmental sciences by including not only major universities, but also local school districts and community colleges.

In 2014, Lacawac plans to open a new science lab and already has a PhD researcher/educator on staff, Dr. Lesley Knoll.

Meantime, the burgeoning organization is seeking volunteers for its programming committee (in order to continue Lacawac’s traditional programs and events), a business sponsorship committee, a membership committee and a volunteer committee.

Contact Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation Chairman Steve Lawrence at 570/689-9494 or at 570/470-2627 for more information.
