The whitening around Sam’s neck visible in this photo, and the yellowing of the talons, visible in the color version of this photo, suggest that Sam may already be two years old. If so, the fact that the adults are still feeding him is a puzzle.

Historical outings at Twin Cedars

MILFORD, PA — Twin Cedars residents Edith Grieve and Floyd Nower are seen at Grey Towers National Historic Site. The residents of Twin Cedars Senior Living, located in Shohola, have been taking an interest in local history this summer by visiting historical sites such as Grey Towers and The Columns Museum.

VFW post marks 50 years

ROCK HILL, NY — The Sergeant Andrew Brucher Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5499 of Kauneonga Lake marked its 50th anniversary recently with a celebration at the Sullivan in Rock Hill. Guests of honor were Mabel Brucher, pictured third from left, and family. U.S. Rep. John Faso was the evening’s main speaker.

Looking Back 7/27

Edward F. Dermody was born in Cochecton Center on April 4, 1879. He was educated in the Cochecton township schools. His brother Will owned a store in Cochecton, where he took his first job; it lasted 20 years. He then bought into partnership with another brother, Martin, who leased the A. G. Gregg store in Damascus, PA.

Willow Wisp Organic Farm Store opens

CALLICOON, NY — Willow Wisp Organic Farm, founded by Greg Swartz and Tannis Kowalchuk in 2008 in Damascus, PA will open a weekend farm store on Friday, July 21 at 43 Lower Main Street (the Flea Market building beside the library). The pop-up farm stand store will feature freshly harvested, organically certified vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Workforce training funds available

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — Business owners interested in receiving funding to train their workers can apply to SUNY Sullivan for workforce development training grants. The SUNY Community College Workforce Development Training Grant Program is funded by the 2017/18 New York State budget and is administered by the State University of New York (SUNY).
