Have you ever been to a pig roast? In the last two weeks, I have been to two. The Knights of Columbus held one at Holy Cross Church on Sunday the 11. My brother is the Grand Knight, and he asked me to stop by and help him. He did not need me; the wives of the knights did a great job setting up and supplying the food. When I got there, I went over to him and he asked me to carry some pig down to the oven. I said, “OK,” and he gave me a metal tray with the head in it. Gross, gross, gross. Then he went on tell the other knights how, when my father was a kid, the only day my grandmother had meat was on Sunday. My father and his three brothers would fight for the eyeballs and his two sisters would fight for the meat in the cheeks. So my dear darling brother was trying to get me to eat the eyeballs. He did not succeed. I carried the tray to the church, and then Dennis Eschenberg bailed me out and took it down to the kitchen.

Teddy Laffin, Grand Knight would like to thank all the knights for the hard work they did. It was their pleasure to help out at the church picnic to thank all the parishioners who come out and support the Knights’ events throughout the year. On August 24, Holy Cross Rosary Society is having a penny social/tricky tray. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and calling begins at 7.

On Sunday the 18 we were up at our friends’ house, and they cooked a pig and a turkey. The sitting around, waiting for the pig to cook is the best part. It is something to watch them butcher it, and then you eat it. Yummy.

On Sunday, August 25 from 4 to 7 p.m., you can try a pig roast, and also pulled pork, ribs with all the fixings at the Narrowsburg Inn. It’s a fundraiser for Colton Kelty, son of Kelly Kelty, who used to have Kathy’s Beauty shop in Pecks Plaza. Colton is a 16 year old recovering from a life-threatening accident. All money raised will go toward his long-term recovery. Tickets cost $15 and are available in advance, or at the door. You can purchase tickets at the Narrowsburg Inn. There will be music, drink specials, raffles, 50/50 and a tricky tray.

Ethel Hulse wanted to let you all know that there was a 70th birthday party for Pat Voges; many friends and family were there. Please keep Sal Indelicato in your thoughts and prayers.
