The family of Pete and Anita Toscano are having an estate sale. If you never sold your parent’s life, it is the hardest thing ever. I knew I had to stop by and get a little something so I could always have a bit of them in my life. My husband is now the owner of the original Pete’s Pub sign: “The Working Man’s Country Club.” When I was at the sale, I ran into some of the workers who used to work in Pete’s. Great memories....

You still have time to get a piece of their life; the sale is going on again on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their home on Rte. 52, Lake Huntington. There is something for everyone.

There is so much going on these days with fundraisers, and there are two that are dear to my heart.

On Sunday, August 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. you can help a young man named Colton Kelty by buying pulled pork, ribs, and all the fixings at the Narrowsburg Inn. Colton is the 16-year-old son of Kelly Kelty, who used to have Kathy’s Beauty shop in Pecks Plaza. Colton is recovering from a life-threatening accident. All money raised will go toward his long-term recovery. Tickets cost $15 per person and are available in advance at the Narrowsburg Inn, or at the door. There will be music, drink specials, raffles, 50/50 and a tricky tray. Donations also will be accepted at the inn. On September 8 there will be a St. Baldrick’s fundraiser at the Four Corners in Eldred. Marissa Sweden, a 13-year-old Sullivan West student, will shave her head to help fight childhood cancer, and also will donate her long ponytail to Locks of Love. If you remember, last year my husband shaved his head. It’s a very emotional day thinking of all your loved ones who are fighting the battle and the ones who did not make it. I always stand in the Line of Hope with the name Jean, in memory of Jean Kerrigan. Last time I went to Long Island, I stopped by Marie Smith’s house, Jean’s sister. Marie sends her love to everyone who knows her. She is holding her own and looks great.
