Happy Valentine’s Day to all. As of the 12th of February, I have been with my husband for 31 years, only married 23 in September. Love to my husband, mother and all my family, friends and readers.

I write this column with a bad cold and a very congested head. We were lucky that we did not get that much snow with the Nor’easter. My cousin who lives in Port Jeff on Long Island got 32 inches, my sister in Queens got over a foot. My mother is doing great and says she is praying for all of you.

Is this year going fast or is it me? Wednesday was Ash Wednesday and Easter is only a few weeks away.

If you are driving around Lake Huntington and want to know what that elephant is doing on the frozen lake, I’ll tell you. The Republican Club does a fundraiser, and for only $5 you can get three guesses on when the elephant is going for a swim. If you are interested in playing, give Ed Grund a call at 845/932-7363.

On Sunday, February 24 the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps will host its sixth annual chili fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new fire/ambulance building on Rte. 116, Lake Huntington. There will be different types of chili and also chicken noodle soup. Come out and help the ambulance corps raise money for much needed supplies. Call Pete Grosser at 845/932-9807 with any questions.

Habitat for Humanity of Sullivan County is now accepting family applications for their next Habitat house. It will be constructed on a half-acre parcel outside the hamlet of South Fallsburg in a residential neighborhood in the Fallsburg School District. Any Sullivan County resident family who can not obtain a conventional mortgage but can afford low-cost housing can apply. Habitat’s family selection committee has information packets available at local libraries, places of worship and not-for-profit agencies. Call 845/791-8305 for an application. We will begin the selection process next week.

My buddy Dolores Manaseri is home and doing better, though she still has a way to go with getting stronger. Happy belated birthday to Anna Story, who celebrated last week.

Have a great week, and email leeniebeans@citlink.net or call 845/252-3568
