Eldred student wins DAR award

ELDRED, NY — The Old Mine Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently announced the 2014 winner of the DAR Good Citizens Scholarship. Peter Vorstadt is a senior at Eldred High School and won this year’s competition. He was presented with a $100 check, a DAR pin, and a certificate. He is a three-sport varsity athlete, an Eagle Scout, and is active in leadership roles, both in the high school and in the community.  Read more

Western Wayne wind tunnel project gets grant

LAKE ARIEL, PA — The Wayne County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee recently awarded a grant to the Western Wayne High School Technology Student Association (TSA) Club to assist the group in making a wind tunnel to collect data for studying drag coefficients, aerodynamics and more in preparation for a TSA inter-scholastic competition.

Odyssey of the Mind students to compete with creativity

MILFORD, PA — Students from The Delaware Valley School District will be among about 700 local students who will put their creativity to the test at the Northeast Pennsylvania Odyssey of the Mind regional tournament on March 8. The tournament will be held at Pocono Mountain West High School in Pocono Summit for the sixth year in a row.  Read more

Youth Advisory Committee awards grant to Wallenpaupack North Intermediate

HAWLEY, PA — The Youth Advisory Committee of the Wayne County Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School. The grant will be used to purchase an air mouse and projector for learning support students. This new technology will encourage hands-on and interactive class lessons. The foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) familiarizes high school students with the benefits of charitable giving. Wayne County high school students serve on the committee where they review mini-grant applications submitted by county schools.  Read more

Eldred plays for a cure

ELDRED, NY — Members of the Eldred Central School District (ECSD) Junior Varsity Basketball Team sport their “Playing for a Cure” shirts. The ECSD Varsity Club is selling the shirts as part of a yearlong fundraising effort to collect $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. To date, the club has collected $600, and it will continue to sponsor events throughout the school year. The shirts are available for sale at all home games or by contacting the main office at the high school.

Student volunteers at Wayne County Historical Society

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS), 810 Main St., is working on new exhibits for the spring opening of the museum on Saturday, April 26. The new exhibits are titled “Mystery Portraits of Wayne County,” “Historic Floods of Wayne County,” and “Grandma’s Attic.”  Read more

Eldred art students win at the Regional Scholastic Art Awards

ELDRED, NY — Seven Eldred Junior-Senior High School students won a total of 10 gold and silver key awards for this year’s Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. They are all art students of Jennifer Powell.  Read more

Youth advisory group awards grant

HONESDALE, PA — The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of the Wayne County Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to Marci Jones’ class at the Stourbridge Primary Center. The funds will be used to purchase monarch butterfly eggs used as part of an integrated reading/science program activity. The foundation’s advisory committee familiarizes high school student leaders with the benefits of charitable giving. Wayne County High School students select winners of mini-grants, which are submitted from county schools.  Read more

Chain reaction gains momentum at Port Jervis High School

Snow and intense cold didn't stop the Friends of Rachel's Club from continuing its chain reaction of kindness and compassion at Port Jervis High School.

On January 10, close to 100 students, staff, parents and community leaders came together to participate in the intense Chain Reaction Day. The students spent the entire school day in the gymnasium interacting with adult leaders in high energy activities and emotional discussions. The goal is to empower the students to make a difference in their community.  Read more

Eldred School seeks BOCES board representative

At the regular meeting of the Eldred Central School Board of Education held on Thursday, January 9, Superintendent Robert Dufour announced that Paul Burckard will not be seeking re-election as Eldred’s representative to the Sullivan County Board of Cooperative Services. The district thanked Mr. Burckard for his dedication as Eldred’s representative for the past six years.  Read more
