LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — SUNY Sullivan has announced the schedule for the new season of “The Met: Live in HD” series, which kicks off in the Seelig Theater on Saturday, December 10 with Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s “L’amour de Loin,” starting at 12:55 p.m.

“The Met: Live in HD” is the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live simulcasts. It is the world’s largest provider of alternative content, reaching more than 2,000 theaters in 70 countries, including SUNY Sullivan’s Seelig Theater. The 10 productions will be shown on Saturdays, with most operas beginning at 12:55 p.m. Other productions this season include “La Traviata” and “Der Rosenkavalier.”

“L’amour de Loin” was described by The New York Times as “transfixing… a lushly beautiful score.” Commissioned by the Salzburg Festival, where it was first seen in 2000, it will now have its Metropolitan Opera premiere in a new production by Robert Lepage, featuring glimmering ribbons of LED lights. Eric Owens is the knight on a quest of love, and Susanna Phillips is his lover on the other side of the sea. Conductor Susanna Mälkki makes her Met debut.

Ticket pricing for all presentations during the 2016-2017 season is $20 for adults, $10 for children 13 and under and for students with valid ID. For tickets, call 845/434-5750, ext. 4472, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
