LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Art Society will present a screening of the classic Japanese film “The Burmese Harp” (1956), featuring a talkback with Michiko and Steve Levine, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11. Part of the CAS Film Club series of screenings, this event will take place at the Laundry King, 65 Main St.
Director Kon Ichikawa portrayed the decimating effects of World War II from the point of view of the Japanese army in this stirring Oscar-nominated landmark, the first in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. The runtime is 116 minutes. The black-and-white film is presented in Japanese with English subtitles. This film is not rated. Recommended for ages 13 and up; it contains violence and disturbing images.
