Lotus Labyrinth opens at Woodloch

HAWLEY, PA — A new custom-designed labyrinth will be unveiled at The Lodge at Woodloch during a workshop series with the Veriditas Organization. The labyrinth will offer new programming and a serene location for meditation and relaxation in the arms of the forest. Uniquely designed by Katja Marquart, associate dean and head of interior architecture at the University of Wisconsin, the labyrinth features a lotus flower at the entrance and exit, nine circuits and covers a surface area of over 1,589 square feet. The lodge sourced craftsman Mark Bell of Rock Solid Landscaping of Lake Ariel to lay each stone. Finally, the team hand-selected and sourced paver stones that would complement and not detract from the nature-inspired design of the building and grounds.

What is a labyrinth? According to Veriditas: “The labyrinth is a walking meditation, a path of prayer and an archetypal blueprint where psyche meets spirit. It has only one path that leads from the outer edge in a circuitous way to the center. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. Unlike a maze where you lose your way, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool that can help you find your way.”

There will be a one-day workshop that is open to members of the community, guests and followers of Verditas. Attendees may choose to attend this workshop (either half day or full day) as an introduction to labyrinths. For a more in-depth experience and to walk away with a certification, attendees may choose to attend the three-day workshop with Veriditas master teacher Jo Ann Mast at the helm.

A half-day workshop with lunch costs $50. A full day includes both morning and afternoon workshops and boxed lunch for a cost of $75. The morning session, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is “Seasons of Change: Carrying Our Stories into the Labyrinth.” The afternoon session, from 1:30 to 5 p.m., is “A Path Less Taken: Ancient Wisdom for Today’s World.”
