NARROWSBURG, NY — The Tusten Theatre fall season includes independent film, jazz, theatre, Irish music and opera this year, starting in September with Big Eddy Film Festival and ending in early December with “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

Sponsored by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the series begins with a concert and CD release party on Saturday, October 4, at 8 p.m. Featuring the Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet, made up of Jaxen on piano, Charlie Krachy on tenor sax, Don Messina on double bass, and Bill Chattin on drums, the quartet will highlight some of the tunes on their new release “Quarternity,” which include works by Hammerstien/Kern, Lennie Tristano and Cole Porter. Following the concert, the audience is invited to a reception to celebrate the CD and meet the artists. A special rate of $10 for the new CD will be offered to concert goers. Admission is $20 ($18 on advanced sales for DVAA members).

Three new plays, all set in New York, make up “Ah, New York – Fortitude, Frustration, Fantasy,” an Act Underground Readers Theatre production directed by Wendy Kaufman, on Saturday, October 11, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 12 at 2 p.m. “They Come and Come” by John J. Kelly is set in the East Village during the Great Migration and explores the immigrant life of neighbors trying to make their way in this new world of hope and promise; “A Good Stiff One,” by John Backe, is set in a bar and grill somewhere in New York and three people with different motives try to solve a “problem” that exists in the restroom; and J. Paul Porter’s “Every Pair of Blue Jeans Was Like a Bullet,” looks at Wall Street through the eyes of three unlikely newcomers to the street. Admission is $15 ($12 on advanced sales for DVAA members).

Friday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m., brings the Boston-based band, Long Time Courting. This all-women supergroup features Shannon Heaton (flute, accordion, vocals), Liz Simmons (guitar, vocals), Valerie Thompson (cello, vocals) and Katie McNally (fiddle, vocals). These four women offer a blend of neo-traditional Irish, Scottish and American music that showcases each musician’s versatility, creativity and mastery.

The season continues with “Masque of the Red Death,” an original musical drama written and composed by Gladys Smuckler Moskowitz, based on Edgar Allen Poe’s famous story. Co-produced by the Sullivan County Dramatic workshop and Delaware Valley Opera, “Masque” will be performed at Tusten Theatre on November 7, 8 and 9.

The Delaware Valley Opera concludes the Tusten season with a full production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a story of the Three Kings, on Saturday, December 13, at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 ($15 advance/children under 10 free).
