Pie, cake and chocolate bakers invited to compete at county fair

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Fair invites pie and cake bakers, plus those who have a favorite chocolate recipe, to register now to compete in three popular competitions at the fair. One is for pie bakers entering the 27th annual Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Program, the commonwealth’s Department of Agriculture and the PA State Association of County Fairs. The second is for cake bakers entering the 11th annual Incredible Angel Food Cake contest sponsored by the PA Egg Farmers and the PA State Association of County Fairs. The third is for those entering the PA Preferred ® Chocolate Baking Contest. Judging for these contests will take place on the first day of the fair, August 1.

Dozens of county fairs in PA offer cash and ribbon prizes in these categories. Wayne County Fair’s baking contests are preliminary competitions that lead to the selection of the final statewide winners chosen each January at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.

Contest open entry forms and rules are available in the 2014 Premium Books-Dept. 15, found at various locations mentioned in an ad in this paper, as well as online at www.waynecountyfair.com/premiumbooks. For information about contest requirements, contact Judith Muller at 570/448-2912.

The Wayne County Fair runs from August 1 through 9.
