MILFORD, PA — Grey Towers will host a free open house and a re-creation of Gov. Gifford Pinchot’s community ice cream social complete with live 1920s/1930s Dixieland music on Friday, July 4.

The open house of the 19th-century French mansion is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can browse through the museum rooms and visit the upper floors of the mansion. Interpretive guides will be on hand to answer questions. The ice cream social will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. In lieu of a fee, visitors are asked to being a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to a local food pantry.

Doug Smith’s Dixieland All-Stars will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. The All-Stars take a modern approach to Dixieland music, while retaining the deep traditional roots of the medium. Visitors also will have an opportunity to view a selection of short films, including Pinchot family films that show the Governor at one of the original ice cream socials, and “In the Shadow of a Man,” the film that documents President Kennedy’s 1963 visit.

The events will be held rain or shine. Call 570/296-9630 or visit www.greytowers.org or www.fs.fed.us/gt.
