PORT JERVIS, NY — UpFront Exhibition Space will have the remaining contents of the Estate of the Works of Joe Splendora. This collection of over 220 oil paintings and watercolors will be on exhibit on Saturday, March 1 from 3 to 8 p.m.

Splendora was known to work in oils on canvas and mixed media on paper. His usual subjects were historical, nautical, landscape and village scenes painted in neutralized earthy colors. He was active for most of the mid 20th Century. After the death of his son in 1977, he entered a “dark period” in which his images became solemn, painted in desaturated shades with little contrast. His works nearly always included a distant bird-in-flight symbol, painted into the image somewhere, an example of which is seen on his son’s grave marker.

UpFront Exhibition Space is located at 31 Jersey Ave. Gallery hours are Thursday to Sunday 12 noon to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Gordon Graff or Debbie Raia at 845/856-2727, or visit the “UpFront Exhibition Space” on Facebook.
